This training focuses on the practical skills required to install, haul and recover underground telecommunications cabling for new installations, network upgrades and maintenance work. Learners develop the knowledge needed to work with different cable types and understand the processes involved in placing cabling within underground infrastructure and customer premises.
The course covers work practices relevant to telecommunications networks supporting services such as telephony, data, video, computer networks, CCTV, broadcasting and fibre optic communications. Training includes preparing the work area, selecting suitable equipment and materials, handling cable safely and carrying out installation activities in line with relevant workplace procedures.
The training is particularly relevant to telecommunications technicians and cabling workers who undertake underground installation, recovery or upgrade activities. It can also support technicians seeking the competencies associated with underground cabling work where these skills are required for their registration or industry activities.
