Optical Fibre Cabling provides practical training in the installation, termination and testing of optical fibre cable used across telecommunications and data networks. The course covers the characteristics and construction of optical fibre, how light is transmitted through fibre, and the equipment and methods used to establish reliable fibre connections.
Training focuses on practical cabling activities for new installations, network upgrades and maintenance work across domestic, commercial and industrial environments. Learners develop skills in placing and securing fibre, preparing cable for termination, applying different termination and splicing methods, and testing both single-mode and multimode fibre.
The course is relevant to telecommunications technicians and cablers working with optical fibre infrastructure. Australian telecommunications cabling work is subject to registration, legislative and regulatory requirements, including requirements administered through the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).
On successful completion of the course and assessment requirements, learners will receive a Statement of Attainment for ICTCBL322. Where applicable, learners should confirm current cabling registration and regulatory requirements with the relevant authority before undertaking customer cabling work.
