Combined Fibre Hygiene, Testing, Splicing and Optical Fibre Cabling brings together practical skills for working with optical fibre networks, from cable preparation and connector cleanliness through to installation, splicing and performance testing. The training supports technicians involved in new installations, network upgrades and maintenance across telecommunications environments.
Participants develop skills in handling optical fibre safely, preparing and cleaning connectors, selecting suitable termination methods and carrying out fibre splicing. Training also covers the use of optical measuring and testing equipment to assess fibre performance, identify faults and interpret test results. Single-mode and multimode fibre, direct field termination and fibre network components are included.
The course is relevant to telecommunications technicians and other workers undertaking optical fibre cabling activities. WHS requirements and safe practices are incorporated throughout the training, including considerations for live optical fibre installations.
Successful completion of the required assessment activities results in a Statement of Attainment for the applicable units of competency. A Certificate of Completion for Fibre Hygiene may also be provided where applicable. The required prerequisite sequence applies, with ICTWHS204 preceding ICTBWN307, and ICTBWN307 preceding ICTBWN308.
